THE STORY OF BERTRAM
Visual Collection
Bertram
Bertram, was an adolescent Venus flytrap
who grew on a stump near a road where many things came and went.
Each with their own agenda and purpose.
Bertram bore witness to these things passing by with each passing day of his life.
How he wished to be something more — never satisfied with who he was.
Bertram admired the “man” that’d he see walk past each day.
Man was able to have ambition, capable of travel, and could love.
So Bertram began to emulate the characteristics of a man
Soon Bertram realized that being man wasn’t all that great.
Man suffers illness of the mind and loss.
Bertram ceased his admiration of man.
Then Bertram took notice of the birds above the road.
Birds are able to travel greater distances
and do not suffer from anxieties and depression.
Bertram began to emulate those aspects of a bird.
Soon, Bertram realized that being a bird wasn’t all that great.
Birds have a shorter lifespan than man
and are preyed upon by things stronger.
Bertram ceased his admiration of the birds.
Finally, Bertram witnessed a machine power down the road.
Machines have a long lifespan,
don’t feel emotion, and have no predators.
They have purpose above all else.
Sadly, Bertram’s life was cut short due to his transition into a bird.
So Bertram, incomplete and never satisfied,
remains a shell — removed from the side of the road.
